Can a 22 LR defeat a Kevlar "Bullet Proof" Vest? We put it to the test.
20 year old decomissioned kevlar vest is test shot with a 16" bbl Ruger 1022 from aprox 10 feet away. Supersonic .22LR Federal High Velocity Ammo was used for the test.
This is a level IIIA vest.

How far is a .22 LR Lethal?
Why a .22 caliber firearm may be the most important purchase you can make.

..................
Most people imagine they will be facing a gun with their gun, but what about a woman facing a rapist, or a man facing a man with a knife or something. Or several men attacking you. A .22 will make most people go away.
Very impressed with 400+ yd shot with a .22
A .22 LR would be my number one choice for stopping someone? No.
It is lethal farther than you think.
It is lethal farther than you can shoot accurately!!!
I will add more info later about this after I research it.

A former policeman has this view:
Part of the problem with the 22LR and the 22 short as defensive rounds is that you can shoot the attacker, even shoot him multiple times and he still has the power to fight back, swing his bat, slash with his knife, or shoot back. He may bleed to death 30 minutes later behind some dumpster, but then you are dead too.
Defensive handguns have to end the threat quickly, and that is the correct way to view this: Terminate threat, period. The .22 rimfire does kill but may not terminate a threat rapidly enough to preclude the medical examiner from having to examine two dead bodies rather than just one.
A determined aggressor, even high on drugs, can usually be stopped with a single .357 Magnum, .45 acp round or even 9x19mm round. A .22 may result in life-ending injuries for the aggressor but not before he inflicts serious bodily harm or even death on the person armed with the .22 handgun.
I say these larger bore defensive handguns usually stop a threat with a single round, but NOT always. I've read of a case where an assailant high on drugs took a dozen hits from a Browning Hi Power loaded with 124 grain hollow point ammo including one round that entered over the assailant's eyebrow before he was desuaded, turned around, walked away and dropped dead a block-and-a-half down the street.
I also know of a case (in the Sixties) where a police officer threatened by a man with a sword shot the aggressor a single time center-mass at close range with a Colt .45 acp. The man with the sword (according to witnesses) actually froze in position still wielding the sword overhead before collapsing a full 10-seconds later. He died years later after getting stabbed in a knife fight. In both of these cases the threat was eventually and effectively terminated. In the case of the shooting with the .45 I'll never know why the lieutenant didn't empty his 1911 on the guy with the sword. Perhaps he was just as surprised that his target didn't drop as the man with sword was that he had just been shot?
Head shots with a .22 you may wonder? In my police experience I've been witness to two head-shot victims of .22s and both survived. Both drove themselves to the hospital (one went to police station first). Torso hits with .22s inflict more trauma but don't consistently terminate the threat rapidly. You mentioned the .22 Short? The last shooting scene I was on before retiring last June involved an RG-22 .22 Short victim of a single gunshot. The victim was gut-shot and the bullet ricocheted within ending up in the scrotum. It stopped the threat rather quickly but the shooting victim survived. It was a domestic violence incident where one bro-in-law shot another. Imagine being the shooter when the victim gets out of the hospital!
So you see, you can do much better than a .22 Rimfire for defensive purposes.
It can be used for other purposes as is noted in at least one other video post on this blog.

Hopefully this videos gets my point across. Rimfire firearms are a very important thing to have for a multitude of reasons. Hopefully I hit on everything.

(This video echo's why the 2nd amendment is in the US Constitution. It wasn't added to protect just hunters. It was included to protect the "free state", which is free Americans, from a centralized dictatorship which would take all your freedoms away.
This is what the government is becoming. Obama is making sure it will continue at a rabid pace.) Story Reports

A basic overview of the Sig 522 Tactical Rimfire, along with some additions and upgrades. In addition to the basic Sig 522 Classic, this version is the Combo version, which comes with both a 16' barrel and a 20" Match barrel. I go over basic disassembly, changing the barrel, and upgrading the Swiss style forestock for a Samson Quad Rail, and add a Magpul RVG, ARMS BUIS and other features.
